Easter Island 4

Manuel and his wife met two couples vacationing from Madrid. We all hung out together for two days. We are at the top of the moai quarry in this picture.

Paula Morales posing by a moai gives a good sense of the immense sizes involved. This field of heads is just as Thor Hyerdahl described it. The statues remain unfinished... a war broke out between the long ears and the short ears. The Intellectual long ears were pretty much wiped out and construction came to a halt. Of course this an oversimplification of what happened... I am not an archeologist!
